That said, it works perfectly. I stayed with 4 stars instead of 5 because I have no idea how long it's going to last. I've only been using it a month or so. I've compared the thermometer and rain gauge functions against two analog thermometers and two old fashioned glass rain gauges and this thing is perfectly accurate. I was surprised at the performance in this price range, but it really works.
I have had this rain gauge for less than a month, but it works great so far. I have a regular rain gauge right next to it and through 3 storms it has been within 0.05" of the old school rain gauge. Hopefully it keeps working like this for a long time. The design must be changed a bit as there are only 2 screws in the rain gauge to take out to change the batteries, other reviews stated there were way many tiny screws.
Rain gauge appears to operate properly. Outside temperature does not display. Owners manual/instructions are terrible; lacking in any details.
Although the temperature gauge is still working after six months, the rain gauge portion quit working after a month and nothing I did could revive it. Setup was almost impossible to begin with, as synching the external rain gauge to the internal monitor was extremely problematic. After several tries I finally got a reading, but unfortunately, as I already stated, it had to be done more than once when the signal was lost, and after a month the unit quit allowing the monitor to synch altogether.
I am going back to the old way of checking rain. I put in the best I can find.
I have had it for a year and changed the batteries 3 times. With so many good reviews, I did not believe the bad ones.
I understand you have to change batteries. The last time was a month ago, and I had to move the unit from 50 feet to 15 feet to get it to work.
Now it is not working. This takes time to reset the unit, and the failure time is coming at shorter times.
The unit has become cheaper for a reason.
